sam johnson, venture partner

Sam has a strong technology background and eleven years of experience identifying and creating innovative new models for electronic trading.  In early 2000, Sam left his position as Vice President, Equities Electronic Trading at Goldman Sachs to found TransactTools, an enterprise software company focused on innovative technologies for electronic securities trading. Sam grew TransactTools over seven years to become the market leader in high-performance trading connectivity solutions, with offices in New York, Chicago, London, and Singapore and many of the world’s largest financial institutions as global customers.

TransactTools was acquired in 2007 by NYSE Group to become a new business unit of the exchange under Sam’s leadership. NYSE Group at the time was beginning to build its next-generation market platform on TransactTools technology, and Sam’s mandate was to build a complementary line of business for the exchange delivering technology infrastructure to trading customers. Sam championed a few key initiatives for the company in his role, including the expansion of the SFTI network backbone into Europe and the acquisition of Wombat Technologies. Sam was Executive Vice President and co-CEO of NYSE Technologies when he left the exchange to pursue other ventures in early 2009.  He is now the founder and CEO of Soversa, a startup focused on revolutionizing the way businesses interface with their customers on social media platforms.

Sam earned a BA in Computer Science at Rice University. He is passionate about business and technology and fascinated by the emerging opportunities created by the merging of the two in a massively networked world.
